EPISODE 23
Re-defining Resource Development with Mary Poulton
Duration - 48 mins

 SHARE EPISODE

For decades, our industry has largely focused on developing resources to provide an economic benefit to its stakeholders. However, there is now an increasing trend of opposition to resource development because communities want to see that development align with their core values. Maybe as an industry we need to start evolving the value proposition we provide through resource development to include long term ethical, social and sustainable benefits as well.

Our guest this week is Mary Poulton and we discuss how future challenges in resource development are likely to be solved by involving social scientists and people from outside of the core disciplines of engineering and science.
MINI EPISODE <> Should academics be more entrepreneurial?

The mini episode contains some of the spill-over discussion we had with Mary on her experience in the startup space developing technological solutions for the mining industry. We discuss how technology often focuses on the machines when it is the people that really matter; how utilisation of technology could lead to a revolution in how we manage safety and training in the industry; and why she thinks the lean startup model is just as relevant to academics as it is to entrepreneurs.
